Sculpture 1 : Twisted Tree

Media: Mild steel, fused glass and solar powered lights

Dimensions: 144" x 40" x 41"

$12000

Twisted trees are a phenomenon that occurs when a growing tree literally gets spun by wind and
adverse conditions as it matures. Decades of a lifetime that endures the harsh conditions of wind,
rain, snow and extraordinary summer temperatures. It’s possible to draw autobiographical
analogies from a twisted tree. As humans, we understand the desperate stretch to sip or gulp a
drop of fresh water – especially if one lives in the West.

This sculpture is meant to advocate for a changing climate. It brings a felt-sense to the
understanding of water conservation and sustainable practices. Fabricated in mild steel, powder
coat and fused glass, the sculpture is highly durable. It contains solar elements for the early
evening hours. The fused glass was created in the artist’s studio. The orbs are 6mm-thick.
Similar sculptures incorporating the fused glass have withstood harsh weather conditions of hail,
fierce winds and temperature fluctuations.
